Having been an Administration Manager (AM) since 1996, then known as the School Administrator, school administration has evolved much in tandem with the changing educational landscape and is further boosted with advancements in technology which saw to numerous enhancements in MOE’s applications and administrative systems through the years. Nonetheless, supporting schools in administration has been very challenging as much as it is exciting. The latter is especially true when one is privileged to be a member of the team of pioneers for a brand new educational institution like Oasis Primary School.  

Over the span of my service with the Ministry, I have gained a wealth of experience in the management of school finances, HR and student administration. However, my learning was not limited to school’s administration and operation but extended through collaboration with external agencies and cluster schools. 

In setting up the Before and After School Care Centre (BASC) for students of Yu Neng Primary School, I was privileged to be involved in a tripartite partnership with Metta Welfare Organization and Marine Parade Town Council. The project saw its completion in 2000 when the BASC successfully came to its full operation. 

At East Spring Primary School, together with a team of staff serving School Cluster E2, I was part of the working committee for the Centre of Excellence (COE) for Science otherwise known as the Science Exploria. Thereafter, I was appointed as member of its Secretariat in 2003, supporting it in managing its finances, procurement and HR. 

In 2008, my secondment to the Council for Private Education as an Inspector had given me much exposure to the administration of private schools where I get a good sensing of the administrative standards and good practices in both private and government schools. 

My current posting to Oasis Primary School gives me the impetus to collectively bring together all good practices learned from every staff member, with an aspiration to make it a model school in terms of administrative excellence. It is hoped that with strong administrative support, learning achievements can scale greater heights for all within the school community. After all, learning is ever continuing for all and that nothing is too insignificant nor too late to learn.
